Drum Making
Drum Making weekend is a great way to create a tool
that has been used for thousands of years by cultures all over the world to
bring people together.
Not
only is it used as a ceremonial tool but also as a social one.
The
drum is the closest to the very first sound we have ever heard. The sound of
our own mother’s heartbeat. That is why the drum resonates so well with people
and has become a part of so many cultures around the world.
The
drum we will be creating is called a hand drum and consists of a pine or cedar
hoop usually 16 inches in diameter and we use either deer or elk as the drum
skin.
Over
the weekend you will not only learn how to make and play the drum but you will
also learn how to come together and share in a good way.
