Ya-teh
My name is Standing Bear a name given to me in my travels searching for my mother and father.
I am non-status First Nations and of mixed heritage and was adopted out and raised in Australia. I choose to not carry my adoptive family name of Erik Spinney as for a time I feel that I need to separate from being named as an adoptee so that I can focus on my search for my birth parents and completing the journey to finding my identity as human being searching for home. At this stage I have no ability to trace my parent's whereabouts due to the illegality of my adoption and the lack of documents.
For the past 15yrs I have been working in many areas of counseling, conflict resolution, mental health, drug and alcohol dependency, social development, youth counseling, suicide prevention, bio-ethical adviser and indigenous related social, ceremonial and cultural gatherings and events. I am self taught and have a good understanding of psychology, philosophy, mythology, sociology, counseling, quantum dynamics, genetics, indigenous and cultural protocols, culture and traditions of many indigenous peoples.
Currently I am a practitioner and adviser to people who are seeking healing advice on many different issues from domestic violence to spiritual crossroads as well as teaching people from all walks of life the many aspects of healing, counseling, human dynamics and many other subjects. I am also in the process of advising on bio-ethical protocols for a medical research and development company. Also I have been and are involved in adoption and adoptee related organizations, primarily "Origins inc " an international organization that has been set up to support all who have been affected by adoption as well as lobbying to change international adoption practices and laws so that the abuses of the past are not repeated. We are also working on changing legislation so that liability is accepted and resources allocated to enable those affected by the past illegal practices of adoption gain some level of resolution and healing of the psychological and emotional trauma created by the past adoption practices and that the institutions and governments that have instigated this abhorrent act are held accountable.
I am the author of "Way of Earth Way of Spirit a personal healing journey" and I am currently working on three other books relating to personal and cultural healing and understanding as well as human nature relating to our environment and the importance of ancestral and cultural understanding relating to personal and social healing and development. Another project I am working on is an educational module to expand awareness within mainstream psychology that standard western psychology's approach to indigenous related issues needs to change in relation to cultural, genetic and ancestral influences.
What has led me down this path is the search for my own identity and the healing of my own life and journey. The issues created by my childhood and the choices I made as a result, led down a path in life that placed me in a position to personally experience many of the situations I now help people to understand and overcome. In learning from personal experience the failings of the western medical construct I have become determined to learn what I need to and to be where I need to be to become part of the changing way of approaching healing and understanding.
My childhood taught me mental and emotional fortitude, combined with the foundations of traditional knowledge and teachings I am determined to work with and help those that ask in a good way. Even though I was raised in a country separated from the home of my ancestry, I will always walk the path of the traditions and mysteries of Turtle Island and simply as a human being. My personal journey and search for my parents has led to Canada. My partner is also Canadian. We both share the same passion for knowledge and spiritual well being, our journey continues as we explore this beautiful world that we live upon.
Thank you for your time
Travel safe and well
